We have been asked what are the likely documents one needs as part of the citizenship application process.

Citizenship Application Q.&A.

This is not an exhaustive list but you will likely need :

  • current original passport
  • any previous passports while living in the state and a photograph of the digital image of your face
  • original civil birth certificate and a copy of the translated document into English.
  • two coloured passports photographs taken within 30 days
  • Immigrant Registration Card
  • 3 different proofs of residence
  • letter from employer showing the date of commencement
  • 3 recent payslips
  • Tax statement
  • P60
  • Recent bank statements
  • Any marriage certificate relevant
  • Completion of online residency checker
  • Tax clearance certificate
  • Evidence of identity
  • Evident of nationality
  • Evidence of residency permissions for the last immediate year before the application is made and also evidence of residence for a cumulative 4 out of the preceding 8 years
Original Certificates/ Documents

All of these should be brought to your solicitor for verification purposes to obtain a stamp of ‘true copy of the original’.

Professional Translation

Documents should be translated via professional translation.

EU Citizens

If you are an EU citizen and have lived in Ireland for 5 years you will have to provide proof of evidence having lived in the state for this period. 3 different proofs of residence may be required.

Application Processing Delay

If the documentary evidence is not furnished in full, this will only delay the application process.

Citizen Application Based on Marriage/ Civil Partnership

Proof of your partners entitlement to Irish citizenship is needed and your partner’s birth certificate, copy of foreign birth registry entry, birth certificate of partner’s parent if parent born in Ireland. Copy of marriage certificate or civil partnership registration, proofs of residence, Residency Permissions,

A sworn affidavit from the partner is also required.
