If a person seeking asylum in Ireland from persecution in their home country, the International Protection Act 2015 details the legal process by which one makes an application.

Legal Process
During the time your application is being assessed, one has certain rights afforded to them.
You must present yourself for an interview with an immigration officer and one should give factual and correct information to assist your application. The immigration officer will likely want to know the reason for the application, personal identity, country of origin, nationality, previous asylum applications, travel routes, travel documents, documentation with relation to past or future persecution or serious harm, the legal basis for entry and a record of the interview will be kept. Personal circumstances of the applicant but also circumstances in the persons home country may be also considered by the immigration officer assessing the application.
An interpreter can be available for the interview.
You will have to complete a questionnaire and possibly do a further second interview.

Refugee Status
Refugee has been defined in directive 2011/95/EU as:
A third-country national who, owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership of a particular social group, is outside the country of nationality and is unable or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself or herself of the protection of that country, or a stateless person, who, being outside of the country of former habitual residence for the same reasons as mentioned above, is unable or, owing to such fear, unwilling to return to it.
Temporary Residence Certificate
During the application examination process, the applicant can be given residence permission with certain conditions, such as, not engage in employment etc.
This can be given to the applicant within 3 days of the application being made.
International Protection Office
The application is made to the International Protection Office, Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service, 79-83 Lower Mount Street, Dublin 2. D02 ND99.
The International Protection Officer decides if one is entitled to subsidiary protection or refugee status.
Permission To Remain
Once the application is made and a decision is made, the person very simply will be either granted or refused permission, and they must receive a statement indicating the reasons for the decision.
Appeal
If you apply for international protection and it has been rejected by the international protection office, then an appeal may be made to the International Protection Appeals office at 6/7 Hanover Street East, Dublin D02 W320, Tel: +353 (0) 1 474 8400.
One must submit the appeal within the time limit.
